Restaurant New Century

Located in Taman Grandview

Tofu - Not your ordinary supermarket tofu, i believe this is homemade

Nice!I like it but i wish that it has a little bit more taste

Vege...

Spinach with Fried Century Egg Soup - Recommended!

This is another great way of eating century egg besides having it with porridge

Not recommended for people who dislike this egg

Fried Pork Leg/Knee (idk) - Recommended!

Definitely nicely done and marinated

Knee/Leg doesn't mean it has no meat, it is full of meat

and fat? i believe they are tendons actually, most of the fat would have melted away after such frying

ps- I don't think you need to use the sauce for it, it is already nice enough to eat it just like this

And so, your dog at home will be a happy dog~

The bonus part of eating there is their dessert: nothing much but better than nothing

And one more thing i would like to recommend is "Hung Siu Yin Tei" (Pork Leg stew?) but this you have to pre-order a few days before and MAKE SURE you will be there to get it..it will be such a waste of time, energy and good food if you don't

This is it...but dapao-ed - lacked the appearance but it is reallly nice, the meat melts in your mouth~

Novelty

Easily spotted Novelty in Mile 4 Bandar Kim Fung..

Not only it serves a vaaaaariety of bread, cakes and pastries it also has a 'mini' air conditioned restaurant inside it with wi-fi perfect for people who cannot stand the incredibly hot hot HOT, weather in Sandakan..

Anyways.. I actually posted about Novelty last year but i wasn't satisfied with my hp taken pictures so I am back to edit-

Mayo Chicken Rice (sadly this is my old hp taken picture)

But old pictures are sometimes treasures eventhough they are not really nicely taken..
It lets you see the changes that happened over the year:

Cheese Baked Rice
Last Year: Mangkuk Kayu

This Year: Mangkuk Kaca

I am not a HUGE fan of it because it has corn..Not their fault, mine..
I don't like corn in my rice ;_;

Chicken Chop Rice (Corn in rice..again ;_;)

But actually it is a rather small bowl - not a typical cheap Sandakan food but despite being small it will surely make you 70% full(healthy) and not fatandbloated-full(not healthy)

orange's addition
novelty is one of the bakeries that comes out with the most choices of pastry. you can find almost any flavoured mooncakes here especially near mooncake festival. other than that, their bread and cakes are quite popular too among sandakanians~ this is a halal restaurant. and serve dim sum througout of the day. this is also quite a popular place for students & working people to eat their lunch.
tips of the day. if things didn't change, daily freshbread is arrives from their factory in the evening at about 4. get your breads by then =).

Sandakan Hotel Dim Sum

I guess everyone in Sandakan knows this place;
Located next to Wisma Sandakan in town~

Palm Garden (1st floor)

My favourite dim sum - Cheong Fen (not Chu Cheong Fen or Fen Cheong-one is another type of food & one is for scolding people so pleeeease don't get confused!)

The Char Siew portions are getting less and less over the years

Fried Lobak Kou

Too Oily

Wu Kok (Yam with Char Siew Stuffing)

Taste is ok but it is getting smaller every year

Siew Mai

Seaweed "Siew Mai"

Pai Guat

Yu Chi Gau (Shark's Fin) - I didn't mean to kill sharks so don't follow my footsteps, it's not really nice anyways ^^;;

Pei Dan Sau Yuk Chuk

I can't remember chewing any sau yuk tho

Char Siew Pau

Palm Garden - used to be good but now it only gets worse over the years
but i wonder why i still eat there..Anyone knows a better proper dim sum restaurant in Sandakan?

Penang Food Centre

Tried and tested due to popular demand..
Located in...Bandar Ramai Ramai (?-i stayed so long in sdk but still gets confused with Malay & Cantonese names of places -_-;;)

Penang Food Centre

Sap Chau Mee (Wet Fried Mee) with seafood - taste like normal but nice kind of normal

wooo~

Ikan Bakar - A must if you eat at this shop?...yes yes..besides you will be attracted to order it when you smell it from your seat

woo~ It's the dry type of Ikan Bakar, if it is wet i shall eat it with one big bowl of rice

My favourite...!!! Sotong Goreng..I love love lovethe curry powder they put in <33 onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzj91BiUaGOwx9WXJL9dfqn3IC7aShVhjKtAYZFsUR2rwzJwtOWT7mA525vW_ohm1QyG-KZWGoQ4WqrcY2EadYedzt1hNi8XdhVo9hoyyL0aIkmTkofT8RqUOqCABhGVLAsa272sxDhcmO/s1600-h/IMG_2377.jpg">

San Mei

Located right in front of Shamrock Restaurant in Bandar Indah Mile 4

San Mei~

Ngau Chap Mihun

Chu Chap Mee but this Mee soup is abit more special; Hak Jiu (Black Pepper) Soup which really really taste like Bak Kut Teh (sandakan style bak kut teh of course) - and dont worry you can choose to eat the soup with other stuff instead of Chu Chap :P Nice~!

Heart of the Chu~

Minced Meat Mihun Soup

Overall they have verrry generous portions of 'Liu' <333 and i don't know if you notice this but they all use stainless steel bowls! cute eh..

Siang Siang Restaurant

Located next to Yu Yuan Secondary School (Mile 4)
Famous for? .....Their bread (?)

Lemon Ping -only available in Sabah (?)

Lemon Teh Ping..so much lemon today ^^;;

They have lots of bread, char siew bread, some other bread..
This is Luncheon Meat plus Egg Bread

^ But....the Luncheon meat only appears at the last 3 bites ;_;
The bread is nice tho~

Ngau Chap Mee

It's really rich in yummy Intestines (?)...I have NO idea what is it called but for you all science students, it has lots of villi and microvilli..The beef tendon MELTS in your mouth woo~ (tho i actually prefer it to be a little more chewable)
and too bad there are no beef ball otherwise there will be one big happy beefy family in that bowl

Anddd~ it comes in a kon lou version too..the mee not the beef!

Anddd~ if you are lucky you may find an Ikea item in your bowl of Ngau Chap

LOL don't you they look like long lost brothers?

We're (I'm) Back

I was very lazy...VERY lazy the past few days because it was so hot and humid, i can faint if i stand under the sun for 3mins..urgh..and the wonderful streamyx is not helping me cure my laziness at all~

Anyways i wasn't lazy to the max..i really did my research on sandakan food these few days (in another words-eating) but this time i have to watch my weight because......just because ;_;

BUT..allow me to continue being lazy because i will go off topic for a while just to write about something i came across today because i am a proud Sandakan-ian

I'm sure some of you know who this is.. Someone told me about Sandakan being blogged about so i was REALLY curious..

I've seen the comments and they aren't really that good..some are being defensive some are being mean towards the defensive people and some are being...plain mean..
(freedom of speech is interesting)
As for me, I was LOL-ing because of the things he said that are SO sandakan and are only found in sandakan..

Environment friendly aircon-less airport, only in Sandakan

Again, aircon-less airport that looks like an open church, only in Sandakan

Small town with more than 10 interesting roundabouts, only in Sandakan
(FYI, Mr. Croc is pointing towards the crocodile farm)

1970s building stronger and more tahan lasak than any other buildings, only in Sandakan

And no~ we are not stuck in the 70s, we're just being conservative towards all the historical buildings (LOL, excuses)... In fact one of my friend stays in a 70s building

But there are still 17843920125 things that he hasn't found out about Sandakan yet but i don't really blame him, you have to stay here to find out...
It's not surprising anymore that people think Sandakan is still using boat to go to papan school and have KFCs on top of trees but some tend to expect too much from Sandakan especially since KK has gone through major modernization these few years but tbh Sandakan is still very Sandakan and i like how it doesn't change that much;
1. I like how i don't need to worry about traffic jam that much
2. I like how i don't need to worry about numerous motorbikes when driving
3. I like how i can fill my stomach eventhough I forgot to bring wallet and only have rm5
4. I like how i can go pluck coconut or avocados and drink/eat it fresh myself
5. I like how Sandakan has more Oxygen than KL, the air is so much easier to breathe in
6. I like how i can speak pure Cantonese here without all the "lui" and "kok"
7. I like how MPS can be renamed as MahathirPungutSampah :x
8. I like how only we use "BAH"
9. I like how only we call Ninja King Ninja King instead of Land Cruiser(?)
10. I like how Sandakan has Lemon Ping, Best rm1.50 TehC Ping, Best rm2.50 Pearl Tea
11. I like how we can bump into 5 friends and relatives in a day out
12. I like how news can travel SO FAST in Sandakan because everyone knows everyone
13. I like how all the pendatang asing efficiently build 10 rumah papans a day even after massive evacuation in BDC
14. I like how all our taxes and government profits are used for development in Semenanjung
15. I like how i can get bitten by 7 aedes mosquitos a day and not get denggi
16. I like how Sandakan always have blackouts and have no water

In conclusion, I always find it amusing that people think Sandakan still ride boats but i don't really care if they know about Sandakan or not because i only care about how i can still enjoy my 'ulu' Sandakan.. a~

Sandakan-ians who are not proud of their own hometown are worse than other people who doesn't know Sandakan

To wrap up this post ...

LOL..ilu sandakanians <33333
^and actually....this is the main point of this post ^^;;
